Chargers leave Colts at a loss

INDIANAPOLIS -- Nobody's perfect.

This idea was hammered home inside the RCA Dome on Sunday when the Indianapolis Colts had the plug pulled on their bid for a perfect season.

Those 1972 Miami Dolphins -- the only team in NFL history to win a championship with an unbeaten season -- can thank the desperate San Diego Chargers for allowing them to pop the cork and once again toast their singular distinction.

The Chargers (9-5) used a barrage of big plays to score a 26-17 victory that kept their playoff hopes alive in addition to preventing the Colts (13-1) from matching the '72 Dolphins' NFL record for starting a season with 14 consecutive victories.

"History is out the window," Colts receiver Reggie Wayne said.
