Miss the 'Boondocks' strip? DVD fills the gap

DVD Just because The Boondocks will be MIA from newspapers for the next six months doesn't mean the comic strip's creator is taking a break. In addition to working on Season 2 of the TV series, which airs on The Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, Aaron McGruder is putting finishing touches on The Boondocks: The Complete First Season DVD, a three-disc set due out June 13 (Sony, $50).

"It's kind of surreal when you are doing it," he says. "I always wanted the TV show when I created the idea, and I guess DVDs are an inevitability for that now, and a very good one."

The strip, which began in 1999 and runs in about 350 newspapers, stars McGruder's two young, loquacious African-American protagonists, Huey and Riley, and their grandfather, who are transplanted to the suburbs....
