Suspended: Former Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Jason Grimsley, who was released by the team last week, was suspended for 50 games by Commissioner Bud Selig on Monday.
A one-paragraph announcement stated Grimsley has been suspended for "violating Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program."
Because Grimsley is not on any team's 40-man roster, the announcement said the suspension will begin if he is placed on a 40-man roster.
Grimsley, 38, was released at his request by the Diamondbacks last Wednesday. He has not been charged with any crime.
