Remember your freshman dorm floor? You do? USA TODAY's Craig Wilson thought he did, too. He returned to Syracuse University on the first day of classes last week in search of his youth, which he thinks he left on the seventh floor of Booth Hall, his home in fall 1967. Yes, 1967. Here's what he found.

SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY The moment I stepped off the elevator, I knew something was wrong. Terribly wrong. It was quiet. Far too quiet. I looked down and saw carpet was covering the once-tile floor. Maybe that was it. Maybe the carpet made it so quiet. But there was no music, either. Not a sound. No heavy bass vibrating behind closed doors.
