Box sets are the one music product left undisturbed by the turbulent download revolution. Or are they? A few sets are testing the digital waters, and more are certain to follow, says Legacy executive VP Jeff Jones, who was instrumental in bringing Bob Dylan's The Collection to fruition in August. The $199 iTunes-only set holds nearly 800 tracks, including every studio and Bootleg Series album, plus 40 rarities and an elaborate booklet available as a downloadable PDF file.
"With one push of a button, you get the entire catalog, plus a great booklet, at a very good price," Jones says. "To put that together at retail would take 30 or 40 CDs. It's completely unwieldy."
