Ticketmaster gets deal to resell NBA tickets
0 Comments | USA TODAY, February, 2007 | by Chris Woodyard
The National Basketball Association plans to announce today that it's designated Ticketmaster as its official ticket reseller in what the agency believes is the first exclusive such deal with a sports league.
The NBA hopes that giving its blessing to the reselling process, through the four-year agreement, will reassure fans that they can resell tickets online if they can't attend a game, boosting season-ticket sales.
Its designation as the NBA's "official ticketing provider" and "secondary ticketing provider" could help Ticketmaster gain a bigger foothold in the resale market. Ticket resales are a lucrative market that's given rise to such online agencies as StubHub and TicketsNow in a domain once dominated by scalpers, both legal and illegal.
