Automakers get head start on New York show's hype

The New York International Auto Show doesn't open until April 6, more than a week away. Even preview days for reporters and editors don't begin until Wednesday. Yet, some automakers are climbing over one another to get early notice for their New York introductions.

It's a sign that the car companies consider New York increasingly important. They don't want news of their important sheet metal drowned out by rivals' announcements and by the general clamor and confusion that attend any big car exhibition.

Here's an early look at some of the show's likely highlights.
