Should radio talk show host Don Imus have called the Rutgers University's female basketball players "nappy-headed hos"? Of course not. Should he have lost his job at MSNBC and CBS? No way.
The coverage of the Rutgers basketball team's overly maudlin news conference would actually be funny if it wasn't so sad. This was personified perfectly by USA TODAY sports columnist Christine Brennan ("Rutgers women stand tall in class," Sports, Wednesday).
If these young women were that upset over a poor attempt at humor by a guy they've probably never heard of, then it is going to be a very difficult life for all of them. I do look forward to Rev. Al Sharpton lodging similar protests against other worse purveyors of racism and sexism: those within the rap music industry....
