New airline: State-owned carrier Saudi Arabian Airlines will start a budget airline this year as demand for affordable travel accelerates in the region. The new airline will compete with Saudi no-frills carriers NAS Air and Sama in attracting some of 7 million foreign workers and less affluent population in the country. Jazeera Airways, which operates out of Kuwait and Dubai, and Air Arabia, the first low-cost carrier in the Middle East, are potential rivals. Passenger traffic grew 15% in the Middle East last year, according to the International Air Transport Association. The region is home to three of the world's fastest-growing airlines, Emirates, Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways.
