Blockbuster summer films are hitting the big screen, but the two most anticipated video games, Grand Theft Auto IV and Halo 3, aren't due until fall, and many other top-tier titles won't arrive before the holiday shopping season.

"Summer is going to be almost painfully slow for the business with everyone really waiting for (those two games)," says Dan Hsu, editor in chief of Electronic Gaming Monthly.

All the hardware players -- the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo's Wii -- could use new games to help drive sales. Since its release in November, the $250 Wii has sold 2.1 million, compared with the $600 PS3 at 1.2 million, according to the NPD Group's sales data. The Xbox 360, released a year earlier, has reached an installed base of 5.3 million.
