EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- The most successful player in the history of the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks will sit this season.
Lisa Leslie, 34, who last season won her third league MVP award, is having a baby next month. But the Sparks' most successful coach is back.
Michael Cooper, the 2000 WNBA coach of the year and the coach of back-to-back Sparks championship teams in 2001-02, has returned.
Coop, as he was known while a defensive stopper and dunker with the "Showtime" Los Angeles Lakers, spent the past two seasons coaching the Albuquerque Thunderbirds in the NBA Development League, winning a championship in 2006.
