Top seed Vanderbilt never better

A season of superlatives for Vanderbilt took another leap forward Monday when the Commodores earned the No.1 national seed in the NCAA Division I baseball tournament.
Vanderbilt (51-11) will host one of 16 four-team regionals this weekend, a program first. The Commodores set a school record for victories and won the regular-season and postseason Southeastern Conference titles. At the SEC tournament, they swept five games after losing their opener, a first in tourney history.
"We've come close in the past, but this has been a special season," says coach Tim Corbin, whose team has been No.1 in the USA TODAY/ESPN Coaches' Poll for the last nine weeks. "We earned the opportunity to play at home in the postseason, and now we will be in our world and comfort zone. ...
