In contrast with last year, when no new series was nominated in major categories and many honors went to canceled shows, this year's freshmen left their mark.
Heroes is up for best drama, Ugly Betty and 30 Rock for best comedy. Actress Minnie Driver got her first nomination for her role as a con-woman on FX's The Riches, as did America Ferrera for the title role on Ugly Betty, former SNL-er Tina Fey for starring on 30 Rock, and Masi Oka as Heroes' Hiro. Sally Field, a seven-time Emmy nominee, got her first for ABC drama Brothers & Sisters. And a comedy-actor nomination went to Rock's Alec Baldwin.
