Giuliani's role in '01 gives him slight edge
0 Comments | USA TODAY, September, 2007 | by Martha T. Moore
NEW YORK -- A slim majority of Americans say the Sept. 11 attacks six years ago make former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani qualified to handle terrorist threats against the nation, according to a new USA TODAY/Gallup Poll.
Giuliani has made his experience during and after the 9/11 attacks the centerpiece of his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination.
That experience, he argues, has made him best prepared of all the candidates in either party to deal with terrorist threats facing the nation.
By a small margin, the public agrees.
In the poll taken Friday and Saturday, 51% say Giuliani is somewhat or much better qualified to handle terrorism as a result of his experience on 9/11; 48% say he is no better prepared.
