The media frenzy surrounding the toy recalls of this summer, which came on the heels of several very high-profile Chinese-made food and drug recalls, has thrust the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) into the spotlight. Recalls that just last year might have received a brief mention are now front-page headlines.
And those headlines have been positive for the agency. Consumers are focused on safety more than ever before. More consumers are receiving direct notice from CPSC about valuable product safety information, and more consumers now pay attention and respond to recalls.
