Vick willingly heads for detention

Anticipating a prison term at his Dec.10 sentencing hearing, suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick voluntarily opted Monday for an early start to his jail time -- and perhaps a head start on one day returning to the NFL.

Vick, who has pleaded guilty to a federal charge involving the operation of a dogfighting ring, surrendered to U.S. marshals in Richmond, Va., and was taken to the Northern Neck Regional Jail in Warsaw, Va., to await sentencing.

"He starts now, and every day in (jail) is a day sooner he gets out," said Washington, D.C., attorney Barry Boss, former co-chair of the U.S. Sentencing Commission's Practitioners Advisory Group.
