Gore gets Oval Office welcome

WASHINGTON -- Seven years after winning the popular vote for president, Al Gore finally re-entered the White House on Monday -- as a Nobel laureate.
The former vice president, whose losing campaign against George W. Bush in 2000 went all the way to the Supreme Court, was one of several American recipients of Nobel Prizes invited to a traditional White House reception. Gore shared the Nobel Peace Prize for his work on the threat of global warming.
Although the two men battled during that election and have disagreed on everything from climate change to the war in Iraq since, they smiled and chatted amiably for photographers Monday. They also spoke about global warming during a private, 40-minute Oval Office meeting.
