Blake different kind of Geoffrion
0 Comments | USA TODAY, December, 2007 | by Kevin Allen
Blake Geoffrion's great-grandfather Howie Morenz was an NHL scoring champion in 1927-28 and 1930-31. His grandfather Bernie "Boom Boom" Geoffrion became the second player in NHL history to score 50 goals in a season and won the scoring title in 1954-55 and 1960-61. Blake's father, Dan, was a 20-goal scorer for the Winnipeg Jets in 1980-81.
Given Blake's hockey pedigree, it seems almost unnatural that the University of Wisconsin player has earned his place on the 2007 U.S. junior team by being one of the world's best teenage shot-blocking, penalty-killing defensive forwards.
"I'm still waiting for that natural goal-scoring side of me to come out later in life," he says, laughing. "Hopefully, one of my kids or my brothers' kids will get that later."
