USA TODAY, January, 2008
I thought there would have been a bigger outcry over the racially charged comments made about Tiger Woods by Golf Channel anchor Kelly Tilghman, who said that young golfers trying to challenge Tiger Woods should "lynch him in a back alley" ("Golf Channel's Tilghman suspended for two weeks, Sports, Thursday).
When Don Imus made disrespectful comments about Rutgers University's women basketball team last year, condemnation rained down on him, and he was forced off the air. Tilghman has been suspended for only two weeks. It seems to me that we have a very hypocritical system of checks and balances in our country when it comes to issues involving race, religion, politics and gender. Some people can get away with racism, while others are roasted alive for it.
