As usual, Super teams plundered

There are reasons teams rarely repeat as NFL champions and why the runners-up so infrequently reach the playoffs the following season. One is that they are targets for free agent shoppers.

The New York Giants defense, which sacked New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady five times in the 17-14 upset victory in Super Bowl XLII, saw three starters depart when free agency began Friday: safety Gibril Wilson to the Oakland Raiders, linebacker Kawika Mitchell to the Buffalo Bills and linebacker Reggie Torbor to the Miami Dolphins.
