Baseball openers have been staged in the Far East and on the East Coast, but the season opens today in earnest with games in 14 cities.
Among the day's highlights will be Johan Santana, a two-time American League Cy Young Award winner, making his debut for the New York Mets at the Florida Marlins after being traded from the Minnesota Twins in the winter. The Twins will see another former player when they take on the Los Angeles Angels, who signed center fielder Torii Hunter to a $90million contract.
