Meet the Phillies' 30-something rookie
Chris Coste was 33 when he finally made the major leagues.
Now 35, the Philadelphia Phillies backup catcher from North Dakota wrote a book, The 33-Year-Old Rookie, about his 11 years in the minor leagues and independent leagues as well as playing baseball in Manitoba.
It is currently one of the top-selling sports books on Amazon.com.
Coste talked to USA TODAY's Reid Cherner about why he kept playing even when it appeared no one wanted him to and about his book:
Q: How did the book come about?
A: When I made the big leagues in 2006, my story kind of got out because of how big the movies The Rookie and Invincible were. My story kind of hit home just like that. ... An article came out in USA TODAY and I started ...
