Miguel Cotto is always focused.

At his home in Caguas, Puerto Rico, it's his wife, Melissa Guzman, and their three children, Miguel Angel, Alondra and Miguel III, who receive his attention.

In the ring, as many opponents have discovered, it's the boxer in the other corner.

A fearless, vicious hitter, Cotto's meteoric rise has helped him shed the shadow of legendary Puerto Rican fighter Felix Trinidad and forge his own identity as a great boxer and Puerto Rican national hero.

Saturday night at Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall (HBO, 10p.m. ET), Cotto's focus will be on Alfonso Gomez as he looks to defend his WBA welterweight title.
