Big Brown favored despite outside post, short resume

LOUISVILLE -- Undefeated favorite Big Brown added another historical roadblock to success when it was determined he will break from post 20 in Saturday's Kentucky Derby, a position that has yielded one champion since 1900.

"I'm figuring we're happy enough with our draw," trainer Richard Dutrow Jr. said. "We have a pretty quick horse out of the gate."

Big Brown proved that when he overcame the disadvantage of starting from post 12 in the Florida Derby on March 29. He surged to the front with a remarkable burst in that 11/8-mile contest and never looked back. The five-length romp gave him three wins in three starts by a combined 29 lengths.
