USA loses game, gains confidence

Canada's 5-4 triumph against the USA in the world championships seemed more like a lesson than a loss.
After erasing 3-0 and 4-2 deficits to tie the score at 4, the young U.S. team (2-1) came away believing it can compete with Canada if they meet in the medal round.
"I have no complaints about this hockey team, how it played," said Tampa Bay Lightning coach John Tortorella, who is coaching the USA. "It played hard. It played together. It played quick. This was a good game to understand who we are as we get into the guts of this tournament."
Canada needed a goal by the Ottawa Senators' Dany Heatley with 46 seconds left in regulation to knock down the USA. He scored against Florida Panthers goaltender Shawn Anderson, who replaced Tim Thomas (Boston Bruins) after Thomas left because of an injury.
