SAN ANTONIO -- If the defending champion San Antonio Spurs are going to get back in their second-round playoff series, their star players must find a way to shake loose from a stifling New Orleans Hornets defense.
Sounds simple, but the Spurs like to keep things that way.
Last year Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili averaged 22.2, 20.8 and 16.6 points, respectively, in the postseason. But in two playoff losses against the New Orleans Hornets, Duncan is averaging 11.5 points, Parker 17.0 and Ginobili 16.0.
"They've done an excellent job defensively, frustrating all of us," Duncan says.
While it's easy to think of the Hornets as a fast-breaking, offense-first team, they don't think of themselves that way. "We said from Day1 one of our main goals was to be one of the top five defensive teams in the league," New Orleans ...
