Golden opportunity to watch Tiger, Kobe

LOS ANGELES -- It's a rare chance Thursday. Competing barely a hundred miles apart are two guys who have reached the upper stratosphere of celebrity, where no last name is required.

Tiger and Kobe.

The mission Thursday is to see both in action. From the U.S. Open in the morning at Torrey Pines in San Diego to the NBA Finals in the evening at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, hoping that the freeways in between are not backed up to Mexico.

Tiger Woods is 32.

Kobe Bryant is 29.

Tiger was named after his dad's buddy in the Vietnamese Army.

Kobe was named for a steak his parents noticed on a menu.

Tiger was born in the West and moved to the East.
