Major Supreme Court cases relating to post-9/11 detainees:

*Rasul v. Bush (2004) declared that a long-standing federal law gives Guantanamo detainees access to courts to challenge their imprisonment. (Congress then changed the law but left open the question of a constitutional right to U.S. courts -- the issue resolved in Thursday's paired cases.)

*Hamdi v. Rumsfeld (2004) ruled that U.S. citizens who become terrorism suspects and are designated "enemy combatants" must receive a hearing on the accusations and evidence.
