Angels excel on the road

WASHINGTON -- The vast majority of major league teams have been reduced to roadkill away from home this season.

Not the Los Angeles Angels. They're road killers.

The Angels on Tuesday won their fifth in a row and 10th in 11 away from home, trouncing the Washington Nationals 8-3. At 26-12, they are one of just five teams .500 or better on the road.

If the Angels maintain their .684 road winning percentage, they'll rank second-best all time behind the 2001 Seattle Mariners (59-22, .728).

No one seems able to put a finger on why the Angels have excelled .

"It's something you can't really explain," pitcher Jered Weaver said. "You get on the road, everybody hates you. It (takes) a little bit more concentration and playing hard. We've had a lot of close games."
