Over 40, but not beyond style

Stripes and checks and plaids -- oh, my! Mixing patterns, among other sartorial skills, remains a mystery to many men over 40. Taking a cue from Hollywood's dapper dudes, USA TODAY's Olivia Barker talked to Hickey Freeman's Jon Morales about getting a guy to go beyond the basic white button-down.

Crisp casual

The Ocean's crew -- George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Don Cheadle " epitomize casual dressing that's sharp, not sloppy or stodgy. When emulating their natty, nautical look, stow the hoodie and reach for a cotton and linen sweater instead. "Roll it up, tie it around your waist," Morales recommends. "It's kind of a rich man's sweatshirt." To keep the look relaxed, add a bright short and let the tattersall shirttails flap in the breeze.
