DEERFIELD, Ill. -- Derrick Rose won't get to wear his college number, 23, in his NBA debut, but the Chicago native wasted no time in donning a red Bulls cap after being selected with the first pick in the NBA draft Thursday night. Next, he hopes to add to the team's legacy.
"It means a lot, just knowing they had those great players like Michael Jordan and Dennis Rodman. Just knowing I could be a part of that history is amazing," Rose, 19, told Chicago reporters on a conference call. "I just can't wait."
The 6-3 point guard, who led the University of Memphis to the NCAA championship game in his only collegiate season, said he hoped to bring leadership to the Bulls team that endured a disappointing 33-49 season in 2007-08.
