Deal ends NBA's stay in Seattle

A last-minute settlement Wednesday between the city of Seattle and its NBA team of 41 years paved the way for the former SuperSonics to move to Oklahoma City.

Team owner and Oklahoma City business leader Clayton Bennett will pay the city of Seattle $45 million immediately, then $30 million more in five years if the NBA has not promised to put a team in the city. The second payment is also contingent on the Legislature allotting money to renovate KeyArena.

Some Seattle fans cried and compared the loss of the team to the death of a friend. Many blamed the city's politicians for unkept promises.
