Papelbon's comment arouses negative reaction in N.Y.

NEW YORK -- Boston Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon became Public Enemy No.1 in New York on Tuesday, incurring the wrath of Yankees fans after telling reporters he wanted to pitch the ninth inning of the All-Star Game instead of Yankees closer Mariano Rivera.

Papelbon was booed during pregame All-Star introductions. He also said that he incurred boos and taunts during the red-carpet ride to Yankee Stadium, with his pregnant wife fearing for her safety.

"It just kind of (tees) you off," Papelbon said, "if your family gets involved like that and you're trying to enjoy an experience with your family.

"And you got a wife who's pregnant and doesn't feel safe riding in a red-carpet event with you. I mean, how would you feel?"
