More swimming (though less Phelps). Two days ago, U.S. anchorman Jason Lezak was outkicking France's Alain Bernard in a 4x100-meter freestyle relay for the ages. They meet again in the men's 100 freestyle. Katie Hoff & Co. are favored in the women's 4x200 freestyle relay. All we'll see of Michael Phelps, meanwhile, is in a men's 200 individual medley semifinal.

Any more surprises? Jonathan Horton and Sasha Artemev qualified seventh and 17th, respectively, for the men's gymnastics all-around final. But then, who saw their team bronze coming?
