Cromartie likes to pick his spots
0 Comments | USA TODAY, August, 2008 | by Skip Wood
For a player who didn't even make his first NFL start until last November, during his second season, San Diego Chargers cornerback Antonio Cromartie sounds a bit outlandish with his bold talk of matching or surpassing a long-standing league record for interceptions.
But take a look again at that first NFL start.
It was Sunday night. At home. Against superstar quarterback Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts.
Veteran Quentin Jammer was banged up, so Cromartie received the starting nod.
Surely Manning would pick on the Chargers' perceived weak spot. Indeed he tried.
And the tactic backfired in a big way.
Cromartie walked off the field with three interceptions and spearheaded the Chargers' 23-21 victory.
