Purdue football coach Joe Tiller is known around the Big Ten for his frankness and disarming wit. As Tiller heads into his 44th and final season of coaching, he seems in-tent on keeping his image intact as just an average Joe.
He has spent the last 17 years as a head coach, including 11 at Purdue. He will be replaced by associate head coach Danny Hope.
Tiller, 65, restored respectability to a program that had one winning season and no bowl games from 1984 to his arrival in 1996. His achievements include a 2000 Big Ten championship with quarterback Drew Brees, a two-time Pro Bowler in the NFL. Yet Tiller seems unchanged by success.
