-- A recipient of disproportionate critical huzzahs but a tiny movie charmingly in scale, this 80-minute sweetie will strike loud chords with any pet lover. It also is a triumph for Michelle Williams, who plays a drifter whose auto breakdown imperils her planned migration to Alaska, a cruel break compounded when her beloved dog/passenger runs off in an unfamiliar burg. After so many rural-based movies in which local yahoos perpetrate horrors, here's one where sympathetic locals offer help to a desperate stranger. The wrap-up seems exactly right. Kleenex dabbing is more than optional.
