Jeff Gordon was so geeked Tuesday about Goodyear's rubber compound at Indianapolis Motor Speedway that he guaranteed next month's Allstate 400 at the Brickyard would surpass last July's tire-troubled race.
"I'm 100% confident," the four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion said during a break in the seventh tire test since July. "It's a dead issue. This is going to be a race here. It might come down to fuel mileage, it might come down to a lot of different factors -- fastest car, not the fastest car, track position, a double-file restart with 10 (laps) to go. But it's not going to come down to a 10-lap shootout on whose tires can last.
