Finally, Professor Kent Jones of Babson College calls our attention to the subtle and less obvious features of the memoirs of former World Trade Organization Director-General Mike Moore. Moore's odyssey as Director-General brought him center stage among the disputants about trade policy. As his memoirs reveal, part of Moore's job as Director-General was to listen to the complaints of several NGOs about social and environmental policies and perhaps give some credence to their varying concerns, without fuzzying up the ongoing trade negotiations to liberalize world trade and promote the rise in real living standards associated with a global division of labor and specialization in accordance with comparative advantage. This juggling act is all the more remarkable given Moore's early status as a pro-labor organization New Zealander.
