"After the Wall: Art and Culture in Post-Communist Europe"

ArtForum,  Sept, 1999

MODERNA MUSEET

It's been ten years since the Berlin Wall came down, and the time is ripe for a closer look at artistic activities in Europe's eastern reaches. The most ambitious survey to date is being staged this fall by independent curator Bojana Pejic in collaboration with the Moderna Museet's David Elliott and Iris Muller-Westermann. "After the Wall" includes recent work (mid-'80s to the present) by some 120 artists, photographers, and filmmakers from more than twenty countries. Among the artists participating are Oleg Kulik, Veronika Bromova, Katarzyna Kozyra, and Nedko Solakov, all of whom belong to the first generation to emerge after the collapse of communism. Oct. 16, 1999-Jan. 16, 2000; travel dates and venues to be announced.
