Gabriel Orozco - Brief Article

Daniel Birnbaum

MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART

This first full-scale US overview of the work of New York--based Mexican-born Gabriel Orozco will span media known (video, sculpture, photography, works on paper) and nameless (what do you call asking residents of an apartment building across from MOMA's Sculpture Garden to put oranges on their windowsills?). According to the artist, what links the works--no matter how expanded the field--is the attempt to activate the space of interaction. The 100-piece survey, organized by Alma Ruiz (curator at both LA and Monterrey MOCAS), will be accompanied by a catalogue with contributions from Benjamin Buchloh, Abraham Cruzvillegas, and Molly Nesbit.
