AKADEMIE DER KUNSTE
Organic functionalist Hugo Haring (1882-1958) remains a mysterious figure among Berlin architects of the '20s and '30s. Although he was a highly influential theorist within the avant-garde, particularly among its functionalist faction, few of his buildings were ever realized. Today Haring's historical influence is recognized, but his doctrine involving the indigenous, organic creation of form stands in need of explication. Drawn from the AdK's Haring archive--and organized by director Matthias Schirren-the exhibition includes 200 drawings, six architectural models, numerous photographs, and works by Haring's contemporaries (Gabo, Hoch). A substantial catalogue is planned.
