This is history: reading the Passover Haggadah

Judaism, Spring, 1998 by Estelle Gershgoren Novak

This is history. Even the fragile, fragmentary moments made indelible.

First, the memory replaces the event Next, the text replaces the memory. And finally, we become what we remember.

This is history The past is present.

ESTELLE GERSHGOREN NOVAK, a Ph.D. in English from UCLA, has been publishing poetry in literary journals for well over twenty years, appearing in Response, California Quarterly, and Pemmican. Her book of poems, The Shape of a Pear, appeared in 1996.
