Bone Up

American Fitness, Nov, 1998

A recent report published in the February, 1998, issue of The Physician and Sports Medicine confirms exercise is a key strategy for preventing and treating osteoporosis. Exercise leads to either increased bone density or reduced bone loss in both pre-menopausal and post-menopausal women.

The best exercises to prevent osteoporosis are weight bearing exercises such as walking, stair climbing and resistance training. Besides increasing muscle mass and strength, improvements in balance, gait and reaction time help reduce the risk of dangerous falls and fractures.
