Exercise Your Hearing
American Fitness, Nov, 1998
Physically fit people can withstand noise-induced stress better than people with a lower level of fitness, according to a study documented in the February Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise. Those who are fit also suffer less from temporary hearing loss due to high-level noise such as jackhammers, overcrowded offices or overhead airplane traffic.
"We know noise is a stress factor," says University of Northern Iowa researcher Fred W. Kolkhurst, Ph.D. "And we know physically fit people are less susceptible to various stressors."
