Spreading the Word

As a touring musician, I have to deal with loud amplifiers on a nightly basis. Consequently, I have developed a slight case of "ringing ear." To my surprise, "Hear Today, Gone Tomorrow" (November/December '98) cleared up some of the misconceptions many musicians have about hearing loss. It's especially important to spread this information to young people. Unfortunately, they take their hearing for granted and are continually exposed to this debilitating problem by using loud headphones and going to clubs and concerts without earplugs.

Future Plans

I was impressed with your CEU Corner about water tai chi (July/August '98). It was a most informative article and has given me some great ideas for applying such techniques to my daily meditation. In fact, I will be trying to obtain my Primary Aerobics Certification at this year's APEX convention to learn more about the body in general. I hope AFAA will create a water tai chi certification in the future.

Starting Early

I was happy to see your Professional Edge piece on Spectrum Clubs' teen fitness program ("Spectrum Clubs Introduce `TeenFit' Program," September/October '98). I feel it's important to start working on your physique and nutrition early in life, and the Spectrum Clubs are providing kids this wonderful opportunity. In fact, it inspired me to start a teen fitness program at the school where I teach. Thank you for recognizing and promoting such programs.

Speaking Out

Thank you for your CEU Corner on fibromyalgia (May/June '98). Being a victim of this painful affliction, I was happy to find American Fitness covering the topic. Because of your article, more people will learn what a potentially crippling disease this is and will be more informed about treatment options. I hope to see more articles of this caliber in the future.
