Trampoline Trauma
American Fitness, Jan, 1999 by D.K. Howe
Orthopedic surgeons at Arkansas Children's Hospital found 4% of its patients over a five-year period were injured on trampolines. To help make trampoline use safer, follow these guidelines developed by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons:
* Only one participant should use the trampoline at any time.
* A supervising adult should always be present.
* Make sure the trampoline frame and mat are in good working condition.
* The trampoline's supporting bars, strings and surrounding landing surfaces should have adequate protective padding.
* Somersaults or other high-risk maneuvers should be done with proper instruction, under supervision and with protective equipment.
