A golden contribution - Step Up

American Fitness, Jan-Feb, 2002 by Lawrence Biscontini

On October 6, 2001, the fitness staff of the Golden Door Spa in Puerto Rico launched an island-wide effort to unite all the local fitness facilities and spas. Forming a four-hour fitness marathon, they secured the donations of location, beverages, music, staging and support of corporate sponsors like Wyndham's El Conquistador Resort and Banco Popular. Thanks to the initiative of Wyndham's Golden Door Spa fitness program and the supervision of Rita Maldonado and myself, the island raised $2,080 for the September 11th Fund.

Instructors donated their time to the multitude of fitness enthusiasts who arrived to donate money and partake in yoga, aerobics, kickboxing, Pilates, salsa and other types of fitness classes. Thanks to the initiative of these fitness enthusiasts, Puerto Rico made its first contribution to the September 11 th tragedy. God bless America!
