Companies can now determine how many employees are likely to have certain health risks and how they may affect health-care costs with the Wellness Wizard[R] calculator, developed by the American Institute for Preventive Medicine (AIPM). The calculator computes the number of employees at risk due to smoking, obesity, lack of exercise, excessive alcohol consumption, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, asthma or diabetes.
Using government statistics and published research data, the calculator converts the prevalence of these risks into the extra costs a company can expect to experience annually, broken down by category.
