Spa school

American Fitness, Jan-Feb, 2005

Relaxation and rejuvenation have become big business. The spa industry grows, and so does the demand for qualified management candidates. In answer to these needs Arizona State University's Department of Exercise and Wellness is offering a new Spa Management Certificate program.

"The certificate will help provide the foundation needed for leadership positions in the industry, reducing a lot of on-the-job training time," says Larry Woodruff, professor of exercise and wellness.

Students will be required to successfully complete courses in leadership, fitness, business administration, holistic health, healthy cuisine and participate in professional seminars on specific spa management issues, massage therapy and an internship at a resort spa.

Enrollment is limited and acceptance is based on a combination of higher education credits, grades, references and work experience.

"We hope the new certificate will help strengthen the business and wellness components of the spa industry," says Woodruff.
